Rules
(guidelines) on how the 100 Spares Challenges are to be scored
Shooting
the 10-pin at a RULL RACK or 2nd Cycle
-
When
shooting for a 10-pin at a FULL RACK, the ball is
only allowed to touch the 6-pin and 10-pin. Taking
the 10-pin clean off is obviously a successful conversion.
Placing the ball in the 6-10 'pocket' is also considered
a successful 10-pin conversion.
-
Contact
with the 3-pin is considered a MISSED spare.
-
CONVERTED
SPARE - If a 10-pin shot is
attempted on the 2nd cycle after a 10-pin or 6-10
combination was successfully converted on the 1st
cycle -- shooting at the empty space left by the vacated
pins -- the ball must stay on the lane until the end
without knocking down any other pins.
-
MISSED
SPARE - If a 10-pin shot is attempted on the 2nd cycle
after a 10-pin or 6-10 combination was successfully
converted on the 1st cycle -- shooting at the empty
space left by the vacated pins -- the ball knocks
over any remaining pins or drop into the channel at
any time, is considered a Missed Spare.
Shooting
the 7-pin at a RULL RACK or 2nd Cycle
-
When
shooting for a 7-pin at a FULL RACK, the ball is only
allowed to touch the 4-pin and 7-pin. Taking the 7-pin
clean off is obviously a successful conversion. Placing
the ball in the 4-7 'pocket' is also considered a
successful 7-pin conversion.
-
Knocking
over the 2-pin is considered a MISSED spare.
-
CONVERTED
SPARE - If a 7-pin shot is attempted
on the 2nd cycle after a 7-pin or 4-7 combination
was successfully converted on the 1st cycle -- shooting
at the hole left by the vacated pins -- the ball must
stay on the lane until the end without knocking down
any other pins..
-
MISSED
SPARE - If a 7-pin shot is attempted on the 2nd cycle
after a 7-pin or 4-7 combination was successfully
converted on the 1st cycle -- shooting at the empty
space left by the vacated pins -- the ball knocks
over any remaining pins or drop into the channel at
any time, is considered a Missed Spare.
Ideally,
the 10-pin or the 7-pin should be standing alone and
converting/missing scoring is obivous.
Please
inquire with your bowling center's front desk if their
automatic scoring system has the capability to spot
specific spare combinations..
If so, the 100 Spares Challenge can be expanded to fit
any single pin, multiple pin, or split combinations.

Century
Challenge Club - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) |
QUESTION
1: .Why was the Century Challenge
Club / 100 Spares Challenge created?
ANSWER:
.The simple
answer... to help bowlers improve their scores.
The
actual answer is a bit more complex. For example, to grow
the sport it is essential to come up with creative ways
to get bowlers to practice the 'lesser glamorous' aspects
of bowling; i.e., shooting spares.
Spare
shooting is a fundamental part of bowling yet it gets
so little consideration because of today's pre-occupation
with throwing more strikes. So why not recognize those
who dedicate his or her time towards improving their spare
games?
|
QUESTION
2: .Is there a time limit to
how long it takes to complete a 100 Spares Challenge?
ANSWER:
.NO... take as much time
as you need. These are NOT intended to be completed in
one marathon practice session. Besides, attempting 100
spare shots and successfully converting 100 spares are
two different conversations.
Get
started slowly, say one game's worth of 7-pin or 10-pin
spare shooting. Before you know it, you will be on your
way towards completing your first 100 Spares Challenge.
|
QUESTION
3:
.Is there a membership fee to be a
part of the Century Challenge Club / 100 Spares Challenge?
ANSWER:
.NO... it is totally free.
There is no cost to the bowlers.
The
Century Challenge Club / 100 Spares Challenge, its website
and other developmental materials are paid for by
the U.S. High School Bowling Foundation.
|
QUESTION
4: .Why
is the Century Challenge Club / 100 Spares Challenge free?
ANSWER:
.Similar to answer #1, this
program was created to promote bowling. It is a simple,
yet effective, way to bring attention to a fundamental aspect
of the sport utilizing proven methods of spare shooting
development.
